UHL Pottery Company, Acorn Wares, 3 gallon stoneware jug in Naperville

The UHL Pottery Company was founded by German immigrants August and Louis Uhl in 1849. The business was first located in Evansville, Indiana and then later moved to Huntingburg, Indiana, because of a better source / quality of clay, in 1908. UHL Pottery primarily produced utilitarian wares like crocks, jugs, and other vessels. The pottery remained in business until 1944 when it closed due to economic problems. Today the family still owns the UHL trademark and they produce a few miniature reproductions of earlier pieces each year. (all of which are dated) In recent years this companies pottery has become more collectible and valuable. The most popular and collected is called "Acorn" wares. This is a 3 gallon crock which stands about 18 inches tall and about 14 inches in diameter. These sell routinely for $125 or more; this one is a bargain at this price.
In perfect condition, no chips, cracks or dings
