This is a vintage, antique cabbage shredder used for making sauerkraut.
This beautiful cabbage cutter, age unknown, is a 3 blade wood mandolin measuring 26 3/4" long x 8 3/4" wide and 2 3/4" deep. The square wood "cabbage box" measures 9 1/4"long x 7" wide and 3" deep. This has a very soft patina on the wood, soft to the touch, well loved, used, slight rust on blades, shows vintage antique condition. This comes from a long line of use in our family but it is time to pass it on to those who will appreciate the tools that have come and now are being lost to the ages. With a little steel wool on the removable blades, it would be suitable for use once again. The box does run easily in the grooves. If your not one for making sauerkraut or coleslaw, it can be displayed or hung on a wall for all to enjoy. Also included is 1 12" "pounder" need when making sauerkraut. I can't remember the last time it was used, maybe back in 1974? and we made a 10 gallon crock of sauerkraut back then.
Lovely decoration. Please see all pictures for further detail.
